“Pro Player Health Alliance (PPHA) is an incredible organization out to help those who suffer from sleep apnea. Working with sleep apnea patients, I know how easy it can be to treat this disorder and our organization has already had a huge positive impact on many,” mentions David Gergen, Founder of PPHA. The organization has held several free events around the country to teach the public about the dangers of snoring and sleep apnea, as well as treatment options available. “HOF CB Mike Haynes, Derek Kennard and former Arizona Cardinal Mark Walczak have been a driving force in our momentum as this company is use to putting together seminars and events on sleep apnea awareness. Together with the former NFL players, we are able to draw a captive audience and offer some free home sleep testing to all attendees to ensure everyone will get tested and seek treatment!” says Gergen.
Mr. Gergen has explained how the idea of forming an “Alliance” with NFL legends to promote awareness started when he met Derek Kennard, a Super Bowl champion who played center for Troy Aikman. Unfortunately his brother, who is sadly no longer with us, suffered from the effects of this disorder and Derek Kennard knew he had to take action against it not only for himself but for his loved ones as well.
“Had we been on the offense when my brother had sleep apnea, he would still be alive today,” says Kennard. “It is more than a game, and with the right team we can be proactive and come out winning,” says David Gergen. “Proactively networking together we can change the score, increase life expectancy and the quality of life,” according to Dr. Brad Eli of San Diego, California.
Sleep disorders are a sleeping giant to an estimated 70 million Americans; 37 million Americans experience regular or chronic snoring and 18 million suffer from sleep apnea. Mr. Gergen’s idea to host free events partnered with outstanding doctors and NFL legends has brought out over 1,000 people to be educated on what sleep apnea is and the potentially lethal effects of it going untreated. David Gergen says, “I encourage everyone to come to the PPHA events, if possible, whether it be for yourself or a loved one. By educating the public and doing these events and screenings, I believe we are saving lives.” To learn more about Pro Player Health Alliance, visit http://www.proplayersleep.org and follow on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/proplayerhealthalliance
